Joan Margaret (Carew) Brady, 86, of Jupiter, Florida, and Gaithersburg, MD, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024, at Jupiter Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her mother, Mary Carew, and Father John (Jack) Carew.
She leaves behind her husband John of 62 years, four children, Stephen Brady, Colleen Brady, Matthew Brady, and Cynthia (Brady) Cooper, and five grandchildren: John Lippens, Maggie Lippens, Justin Cooper, Ryan Cooper, and Conor Brady.
A funeral mass and reception to celebrate her life was held at 3 pm on February 6, 2024, at St. Christoper’s Catholic Church in Hobe Sound, Florida.
Joan was born in New York, NY on July 2, 1937. Growing up in Silver Beach, NY, as the oldest sibling to six sisters and two brothers, she guided, protected, and nurtured her siblings. She graduated from Preston High School in the Bronx and then Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing in Queens, NY, where she made enduring friendships. Later, she earned a B.A. in Humanities from Trinity College of Washington, D.C.
Joan married Dr. John M. Brady in 1961 and honeymooned at Rogers Rock Campground on Lake George, New York, where they continued to spend their summers. She was always very active at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and later the Hague Senior Center. She was blessed to visit Lake George one last time in 2023.
Joan and John adopted four children from St. Ann’s in Washington, D.C., and raised them in Gaithersburg, MD. They were active members of St. Martin’s of Tours Catholic School and Church in Gaithersburg, MD. Joan’s faith was a guiding force in her life. She dedicated her time and talents to her husband, children, grandchildren, and community. She also enjoyed preparing gourmet meals for her family, sewing clothes for her girls, and painting.
