Exploring Mattress Firm in Kentlands Square

For those in Montgomery County Maryland, or anywhere nearby for that matter,  and seeking a comfortable night's sleep, Mattress Firm in Kentlands Square offers a compelling solution. This national chain store provides a one-stop shop for all your mattress needs, from plush innerspring to cutting-edge memory foam. Shopping for a mattress can be a dreaded chore, but the right mattress can make a huge difference in our health.

I was lucky enough to meet Michael, the store manager. He was knowledgeable, patient and helpful on my visit there. As a matter of fact, all of the staff there were amazing!
My old mattress had kicked the bucket and the springs were popped, so I knew I had to replace it. I was starting to hurt more in my joints, and I was not sleeping well.  I held on as long as I could to that mattress set because of not wanting to spend money even though Mattress Firm has a lot of payment options.

I was known to keep my mattress set for years until they became too painful to sleep on. This was not too smart of me as this only exacerbated my arthritic spine. When was the last time you bought a new mattress? Or did you buy the wrong mattress that is now a problem for you? I actually bought a basement bargain mattress a year ago from a furniture store and within 6 months the coils had popped out. Learned my lesson finally. This time, I wanted to go to the experts and chose quality over all.
On a side note here, there are a few signs that it might be time to replace your mattress. Don’t wait till it affects you like I did.  Mattresses typically last around 6-8 years, though high-quality models may last up to 12 years. If your mattress is older than this, it's likely losing its ability to provide proper support. Why is that important? Some people are able to sleep on the floor or other hard surface and find comfort there; but if you are like many of us who need a good mattress, read on.

If you're waking up with body aches and pains, or simply not getting a good night's sleep, your mattress could be the culprit. (Notice I said, could, as I am not a doctor, nor in the healthcare field, therefore, I am not offering this article as a replacement for medical advice). But do think about the condition of your mattress. Visible sagging in the center or at the edges of the mattress is a clear sign that it's time for a replacement. If you've noticed an increase in allergy or asthma symptoms, your mattress could be harboring dust mites and other allergens. If your mattress is starting to creak or groan when you move, it's a sign that the springs or other components are wearing out.

A bad mattress can lead to a surprising number of health problems, both directly and indirectly. When I decided that I wanted to write about my experience at the Kentlands Mattress Firm, I did some research about how important a good mattress set is, and  was shocked to find out so many issues one could have with bad mattresses.

Musculoskeletal Pain: This is the most common issue. An unsupportive mattress can cause aches and pains in your back, neck, and shoulders. It can also worsen existing conditions like arthritis or sciatica.

Poor Sleep Quality: A bad mattress can make it difficult to fall asleep or stay asleep throughout the night. This sleep deprivation can lead to fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and irritability during the day.

Allergies and Asthma: Old or dirty mattresses can become havens for dust mites, which can trigger allergy and asthma symptoms like sneezing, coughing, and itchy eyes.

Reduced Immunity: Chronic sleep deprivation caused by a bad mattress can weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to illness.

Weight Gain: Bet that you did not know this! Studies suggest a link between poor sleep and an increased risk of obesity. This may be due to hormonal changes that affect appetite regulation.(It's true, the connection between sleep and weight is a fascinating area of research. Here's a bit more detail on how a bad mattress might indirectly contribute to weight gain:

Hormonal Imbalance: Poor sleep disrupts the production of leptin (the satiety hormone) and ghrelin (the hunger hormone). This can lead to increased cravings and a feeling of not being full after eating.

Decreased Physical Activity: When you're constantly tired, you're less likely to engage in physical activity, which can lead to weight gain over time.

Stress: Chronic sleep deprivation can elevate stress hormones like cortisol, which can promote fat storage, particularly around the belly. It's important to remember that correlation doesn't equal causation. While poor sleep may be a risk factor for weight gain,it's not the sole culprit. However, getting a good night's sleep on a comfortable mattress can definitely be a part of a healthy weight management plan.

Mental Health Concerns: Long-term sleep problems can contribute to anxiety and depression.

While these are some of the potential health problems, it's important to note that they can also be caused by other factors, and if you're experiencing any of these issues, it's important to see a doctor to determine the underlying cause and not assume the reason. However, getting a good night's sleep on a supportive mattress is essential for overall health and well-being. So if you suspect your mattress might be contributing to your problems, it might be time for an upgrade! Now back to the store at Kentlands.

Once you enter the doors at the Kentland store, in addition to a hands-on knowledgeable and helpful manager and staff,  you will notice that Mattress Firm boasts a vast selection of mattresses, catering to a range of preferences and budgets. Whether you're a side sleeper, a back sleeper, or a combination of both, their knowledgeable staff can help you find the perfect level of firmness and support. They don’t pressure you, and I really appreciated that! Popular brands like Sealy, Tempur-Pedic, Purple, Black, and Stearns & Foster are all on display, alongside Mattress Firm's own private label options.

The store doesn't stop at just mattresses. I really had no intention on getting an adjustable base, but the top-of-the line bases adjust both your legs and your head! Some even do more than that such as monitor your sleep. When I actually saw in person the way the adjustable base worked, I then realized that in the long run, it was better suited for my health needs. Having an adjustable base should serve me better, not just for reading in bed, but for a health concern for when my older degenerative joints are not cooperating. Adjustable bases allow you to fine-tune your sleeping position for ultimate comfort. Beds have certainly come a long way!

The Kentland’s Mattress Firm also has a variety of sleep accessories, including those AMAZING pillows, (wait till you try those Beautyrest pillows!), sheets, and comforters, to complete your sleep haven.

Located conveniently at 195 Kentlands Blvd., Mattress Firm is easily accessible within the Kentlands Square shopping center. Ample parking ensures a stress-free shopping experience, allowing you to focus on finding the perfect mattress for a good night's rest. I really appreciated the handicap parking space right next to the front of the building.
