World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2023 and BBQ Lunch in Montgomery County, Maryland

Join Us for the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Forum on June 15th. 

Did you know that every year, an estimated 5 million older Americans are victims of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation? And that's only part of the picture: Experts believe that for every case of elder abuse or neglect reported; as many as 23.5 cases go unreported. 

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is a call-to-action for individuals, organizations, and communities to raise awareness about the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older adults. WEAAD serves as an opportunity for us all to promote dialogue and education on the issue of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

To mark this important day, we invite you to join us for a World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Forum at the Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center  in Silver Spring MD on  June 15th, 2023  from 10AM to 11:30AM. The forum will feature:

- Up-to-date information provided by *Montgomery County public officials, including *County Executive Marc Elrich*, *County Council President Tom Hucker*, and *State's Attorney John McCarthy*.

- Learn about County resources available to help prevent and respond to elder abuse, such as the Elder/Vulnerable Adult Abuse Task Force, the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, and the Adult Protective Services. 

- Videos of original  Senior Safety Skits performed by local seniors and teens to illustrate common scenarios of elder abuse and how to address them. 

- Interactive activities include Q & A with presenters, Music,  and Yoga sessions to relax and enjoy. 

There will also be a BBQ lunch provided after the forum for all attendees.
