Gaithersburg residents in their 70’s were knocked to the ground on a daylight walk on a Sunday. They were assaulted and robbed near Salk Circle by Crown Center. The robber took the couple’s phone and more importantly, their sense of security. The couple is ok other than the disturbing situation.
Here are some safety tips for while out:
* **Be aware of your surroundings.** Pay attention to people and vehicles around you, and be on the lookout for anything suspicious.
* **Walk in well-lit areas.** Avoid walking in dark or secluded areas, if possible.
* **Walk with a friend or group of people.** This will make you a less attractive target for criminals.

* **Be aware of your personal belongings.** Keep your purse or wallet close to you, and don't let it out of your sight.
* **Don't wear jewelry or other items that might make you a target.**
